Dhanbad, Feb 15: Unidentified criminals uprooted Bank of India ATM  Near BIT Sindri gate under Goshala OP, around 19 km away from here, said a senior police officer.

The ATM had been closed for the last 14 days. When the technical team of the bank reached to repair the snag on Monday evening, they found the shutter of the room as broken and parts of the ATM including the cash box missing. The criminals had also damaged the CCTV camera and its connecting wire.

The technical team immediately informed Sindri SDPO Abhishek Kumar and Circle Inspector Jagdev Pahan Tirkey.

After investigation,  SDPO Abhishek Kumar said that since the ATM had been closed for many days, it is difficult to say when the burglars uprooted it. The forensic team has been called to test the incident. “It is being investigated how much cash was in the ATM or whether it was empty,” said the SDPO to media persons.

Bank of India ATM channel in-charge Shashi Pandey told media persons that Goshala-based ATM had not been functioning since February 1. Cash was loaded in it earlier but it can’t be said how much of it was withdrawn.

Police officials were surprised how criminals uprooted the part of a machine based on Dhanbad –Sindri road near Birsa Institute of Technology (BIT) Sindri gate. The police official said after the statement of concerned bank officials an FIR would be lodged.

In one week, this is the second incident in Dhanbad when criminals attacked an ATM. Earlier, the burglars had tried to uproot the ATM of a bank near GT road near Govindpur market under Govindpur police station of the district. But they failed to carry away the machine.
