New Delhi, March 1: In order to scale up the ongoing evacuation efforts from Ukraine under Operation Ganga, PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday has called for the Indian Air Force to join the evacuation efforts.

From Tuesday, the Indian Air Force (IAF) would join the evacuation efforts as part of the Indian government’s Operation Ganga to bring back Indians trapped in Ukraine amid a Russian invasion.

“In order to scale up the ongoing evacuation efforts under Operational Ganga, PM Modi has called for the Indian Air Force to join the evacuation efforts. Leveraging the capacities of our Air Force will ensure that more people can be evacuated in a shorter time frame,” said the sources.

IAF aircraft will also aid in the more efficient delivery of humanitarian goods to Ukraine, which is suffering from a scarcity of food, gasoline, medical supplies, and other basics as Russian forces advance in the country.

Operation Ganga was started by the Indian government to rescue Indian citizens, especially students, from Ukraine, after Russia invaded six days ago. In six evacuation planes, 1,396 Indian people have been evacuated back from Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Embassy of India in Ukraine advises Indians to leave Kyiv urgently today.
