New Delhi, March 1: In Europe, youTube has blocked Russian broadcasters RT and Sputnik because to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the video-sharing company announced on Tuesday.
“We are blocking the YouTube channels of RT and Sputnik in the whole of Europe with immediate effect. Our systems need a little time before being fully operational,” YouTube said in an email to AFP.
On Monday, Facebook made a same decision, barring RT and Sputnik programming from being viewed in the European Union.
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s dictatorship uses state-controlled media outlets as mouthpieces.
Ursula von der Leyen, the European Commission’s chief, declared on Sunday that they and their subsidiaries would be barred from broadcasting in the EU for propagating lies to legitimise Putin’s war.
