New Delhi, March 3: While hearing a petition on rescuing Indian students stranded in Ukraine, Chief Justice of India NV Ramana referred to a social media post that questioned what actions he had taken to bring Indians back from the war-torn country. He  wondered if he could ask Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the conflict.

“On social media, I saw some video saying what is CJI doing! Can I give directions to President of Russia to stop the war,” said CJI.

“We have all sympathies with the students. The Government of India is doing it’s work. We will still ask the Attorney General what can be done,” he added.

India has enlisted the help of the Air Force to help evacuate its residents from the conflict zone. As Russia bombards Ukrainian cities, India has ordered its citizens to flee Kharkiv as soon as possible to three adjacent locations “even on foot.”

Students claimed they were kicked, threatened, and denied access to city trains. Many of them claimed that the three areas designated by the Indian government were between 11 and 16 kilometres apart.

The Indian government dismissed claims that Indian students were being held prisoner in Ukraine earlier today.
