New Delhi, March 4: The Supreme Court will hear a case filed by farmers’ families in Uttar Pradesh seeking to have a Union Minister’s son’s bail revoked after he reportedly ran over farmers during an anti-farm law demonstration in UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri.

After lawyer Prashant Bhushan informed the court that more accused have been coming to the high court with bail requests and that this needs to stop because they could tamper evidence and influence witnesses, the Supreme Court told him to inform the Allahabad High Court that the petition would be heard on March 11.

“Other accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri case are seeking bail after bail was granted to this accused (Ashish Mishra). There is risk of evidence being tampered and witnesses being influenced,” said Bhushan in the Supreme Court.

“I can list on March 11 only,” CJI NV Ramana said.

Notably, Ashish Mishra is the main suspect in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case. October 3, violence occurred in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri, killing eight people, including four farmers. The incident occurred during a farmers’ demonstration before of Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya’s visit to Lakhimpur. A car driven by Ashish Mishra allegedly ploughed over the protesting farmers, killing four of them. Four more persons were killed in the ensuing fighting.

On February 10, the Allahabad High Court’s Lucknow bench had granted him bail.
