Dhanbad March 9: The mobile phones and purses of eight female soccer players were stolen during the exhibition football match played on the occasion of International Women’s Day at Digwadih stadium of Tata Steel collieries on Tuesday evening.
The Girls’ football exhibition match between Dhanbad and Bokaro teams was organized to mark the International Women’s Day at Digwadih stadium in the late afternoon.
Before the commencement of the match, all the girls of the Dhanbad team had kept their mobile phones and purses in their bags.
When they returned after the completion of the match, they found that their mobile phones, purses in their bags were missing. The victim players said that they had around Rs 500 to Rs 2,000 in their purses.
They expressed their surprise at the fact that a security guard was deployed for protection of their belongings on the ground, but still, their mobile phones and purses were stolen. However, Tata Steel Jharia division officials did not confirm the deployment of a guard.
“Such a thing has happened for the first time with us while playing a match. We had not expected that we would be robbed that too in presence of hundreds of football lovers that too on International Women’s Day,” said one of the girls.
Finally, the victim players lodged a written complaint in the Jorapokhar police station about the incident. Rajdev Singh, officer in-charge of the Jorapokhar police station said that an investigation is being conducted after getting information from the players.
As per the written complaint in Jorapokhar police station, burglars have stolen mobile phones and purses of Nilam Kumari (Rs 500), Guddi Kumari (Rs 1000), Sonia Kumari (Rs 500), Sangita Kumari (Rs 2000), Ranjana Kumari (Rs 300), Lalita Kumari (Rs 2000), Urmila Kumari (Rs 600) and Lalita (Rs 1500).
