However, Congress delegates including Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury were stopped at Santiniketan in Birbhum district.

The eight persons who were burned alive in Bogtui village in West Bengal’s Birbhum district, including three women and two children, were savagely beaten up before the atrocity, according to their postmortem report.

The victims were first violently beaten up and then burned alive, according to preliminary results of forensic experts who conducted tests on the charred bodies recovered inside the houses that were allegedly set on fire by unidentified people early on Tuesday, an official from Rampurhat hospital told PTI.

So far, at least 20 people have been arrested in connection with the event, which is thought to have been sparked by the assassination of a local TMC leader on Monday evening, and numerous police officers and civic volunteers have been removed due to negligence.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had termed the killings as ‘heinous’ and said that the murderers should not be pardoned. Mamata Banerjee has promised that stern action will be taken against the offenders regardless of party affiliation.
