Kolkata, March 29: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written to opposition leaders across the country, accusing the ruling BJP of misusing central agencies and calling for a conference to discuss a path forward.
In a letter dated Sunday, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the BJP government at the federal level deployed central agencies to target opposition politicians ‘just as elections are around the corner’ across the country.
“I urge that all of us come together for a meeting to deliberate on the way forward at a place as per everyone’s convenience and suitability,” the letter reads.
“Central agencies such as the ED, CBI, Central Vigilance Commission (CVC)and the Income Tax Department are being used to target, harass and corner political opponents across the country for vendetta. We all must resist the ruling BJP’s intention to misuse these central agencies with the sole intent of suppressing opposition leaders. Central agencies are jolted to action just when elections are round the corner,” the letter added.
Banerjee had written a similar letter to the Opposition parties in the run-up to the West Bengal Assembly election, in an attempt to consolidate forces against the BJP.
