Ranchi, April 1: Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) had assigned GAIL India Limited in March 2021 to set up a Compressed Biogas Plant (CBG) in Jhiri Dumping Yard in Jhiri Village, Ratu. It has been a year since the agreement was signed but there are no signs of any CBG yet.

Sanjeev Vijayvargee, Deputy Mayor at RMC spoke to lagatar24.com and gave the update about the SWM plant. “We had given the contract to GAIL India to set up the plant but nothing has been done by them till now. There is no proper management of waste in the dump yard,” he said.

Residents of Jhiri have protested against the dumping of garbage and have blocked roads on several occasions. This has led to the administration’s inference which always assured them that the problem of the dumping yard will be sorted at the earliest.

GAIL India and the RMC had signed a concession agreement in March last year for setting up a CBG in Jhiri Village. The Ranchi Municipal Corporation will be able to save Rs 81 crore expenditure incurred at the moment for waste disposal in 20 years. It would also claim to get 100 percent carbon credit in terms of waste disposal after the plants start functioning.

Lagatar24.com tried to connect with the officials of GAIL India for an official statement but there has been no response from their end.

As per the agreement, GAIL is supposed to set up a CBG Plant for processing 150 tonnes per day of Organic Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). The plant will produce 5 tonnes of Compressed Biogas (CBG) per day and approximately 25 tonnes of Fermented Bio Manure per day.

However, it has been a year since the agreement was signed between RMC and GAIL India but nothing has been done so far.
