New Delhi, April 5: I&B Ministry blocks 22 YouTube channels including 4 Pakistan-based YouTube news channels for spreading disinformation related to India’s national security, foreign relations, and public order.
The ministry also blocked three Twitter accounts, one Facebook account and one news website also.
I&B secretary Apurva Chandra said the Ministry had blacklisted 35 YouTube-based news stations and two websites in January for propagating anti-India propaganda in a coordinated way across digital media. Also, YouTube is experimenting with time-specific emoji reactions.
The banning orders, according to Chandra, were issued under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. These social media profiles and websites were being extensively monitored by Indian intelligence agencies, who reported them to the government for quick action.
