Suncheon, April 6: Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty of India defeated Tae Yang Shin and Wang Chan of Korea in the first round of the Korea Open Badminton Championships 2022 on Wednesday.

In a 36-minute encounter at the Palma Stadium, the third-seeds overcame Tae Yang Shin and Wang Chan 21-16, 21-15. At the first intermission, the Indian duo had a one-point advantage. Satwiksairaj and Chirag, though, raced away in style after the resumption, winning the first game 21-16.

The Koreans managed to stay in Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty’s tails in the early exchanges but couldn’t really see it through to force a decider in the second game, which was very similar to the first.

Meanwhile, An Seyoung, the world No. 4 home favourite, defeated India’s Sri Krishna Priya Kudaravalli to advance to the second round on Court 1.

In just 27 minutes, the second-seeded South Korean defeated world No. 119 Indian 21-5, 21-13. In round 2, An Seyoung will face Singapore’s Yeo Jia Min, who is ranked 16th in the world.

Earlier in the day, the third-seed PV Sindhu stormed into the second round after defeating USA’s Lauren Lam. Former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth also defeated Malaysian shuttler, Daren Liew by 22-20, 21-11 in a match that lasted for 40 minutes.
