New Delhi, April 7: The Travel Agent Association of India’s (TAAI) 66th conference and exhibition, which was scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka from April 19 to April 22, has been postponed due to the country’s ongoing economic crisis.

Jyoti Mayal, President of TAAI, stated that the public responded well to the exhibition and that it had gotten over 500 registrations.

“We had an overwhelming response to the convention registrations which had crossed the 500-registration mark. Sri Lankan Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) and Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO), along with Sri Lankan Airlines and, the Hotels in Colombo, were eager to host us for the convention, as was TAAI,” Mayal said.

Notably, the Sri Lankan rupee is rapidly losing value against the US dollar, and the country’s foreign debt is growing. The Sri Lankan government’s revenue has also suffered as a result of a reduction in tourism, which has resulted in gas and fuel shortages, resulting in widespread power outages.
