Ranchi, April 8: The Jharkhand High Court has again deferred the hearing in Lalu Yadav’s bail petition till April 22.
The hearing was deferred at the request of the CBI after the investigating agency sought time to file a counter affidavit in the matter.
Earlier, senior advocate Kapil Sibal appeared on behalf of Lalu and urged the court to grant bail.
This is the fourth time the court had deferred hearing Lalu’s bail plea.
Last time, on April 1, the court deferred as the bench of Justice Apresh Kumar Singh, where the matter is being heard, did not sit.
On March 11, the court deferred the hearing, calling for court from the trial court.
On March 4, the court deferred the hearing after finding some defect in the bail petition.
The bail petition was moved on February 24 after the CBI court convicted Prasad on February 15 for his role in a fodder scam involving Rs 139.5 crores of Doranda treasuries.
On February 21, the court awarded five years imprisonment and imposed Rs 60 lakh as a fine for his crime.
The ailing leader pleaded before the high court seeking suspension of his sentence in the matter and asked for bail on health grounds. His counsel argued that he had served half of the term of the sentence awarded to him.
Lalu Yadav is currently under treatment at AIIMS Delhi where he was referred from Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi for better treatment.
