Dhanbad, April 8: For the first time, the Dhanbad administration has decided to screen the quality of district-based water sources.

Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sandip Singh has in this regard directed to prepare the list of industry, factory and coal washeries based on the banks of rivers and ponds in the district so that the presently available water bodies can be kept clean.

While presiding over the meeting of the District Ganga Committee, the DC said that without mass participation and cooperation, the action plan of Aviral Ganga, Swachh Ganga and Nirmal Ganga can’t be implemented. “So, we will have to ensure their participation for the success of the plan.”

“Screening of water bodies will help in identifying the status of quality of water sources in the district. The listing of industry, factory and coal washeries near water bodies will also help in implementing the project for cleaning the water,” he said.

“We must stop the flow of rubbish and polythene in waterways in order for the action plan to succeed. Checking of the flow of sewage, industrial, and biomedical waste into waterways right away is needed,” the DC said.

A senior official of the district administration said that at the meeting, the DC also discussed providing green cover to both sides of rivers, promoting natural and organic farming and appointing security guards to the protection of it.

Four rivers Damodar, Barakar and its tributaries- Khudia Nadi, Katri Nadi flow in the Dhanbad district and rejects of coal washeries and other industries allegedly drop in it per day in large quantities despite a ban by the Regional Pollution Control Board (RCPB) office.

Besides Dhanbad DC, DDC Shashi Prakash, Dhanbad Municipal Corporation (DMC) town commissioner Satyendra Kumar, director NEP Indu Rani, assistant forest conservator AK Manjul, senior scientists Dr Rajnikant Tiwari Dr Kumar Nikhil Pradhan and official of pollution control board put up their suggestions for implementation of the action plan.
