Ranchi, April 9: The Bureau of Energy Efficiency and Jharkhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (JREDA) on Saturday organised a stakeholder workshop on the State Energy Efficiency Action Plan for Jharkhand.

As per the meeting held under Union Minister of Power, New and Renewable Energy R.K. Singh, there is a need for a collaborative effort between Center and state governments to develop a State Energy Efficiency Action Plan (SEEAP) with sector-wise targets for deployment of appropriate resources effectively and efficiently.

On the occasion, K.K. Verma, Director at JREDA said that they aim to educate people about the efficient use of electricity.

“The less we use electricity daily the more energy we will save for the future. Essential needs should be done but not overused. In simple words, LED bulbs have replaced the old halogen bulbs and have saved 90w of electricity on one bulb. Similarly, we need to find alternatives for traditional methods to save energy,” he added.

This stakeholder workshop was organised by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency and Jharkhand Renewable Energy Development Agency to prepare the State Energy Efficiency Action Plan for Jharkhand.

Rakesh Rai, Secretary, Ministry of Power said that they have given a new target to reduce the energy intensity by 45% from the 2005 level.

“India has been playing a very vital role in reducing energy intensity on a leading platform. We will focus on different sectors and will help them in developing action plans so that energy efficiency is achieved,” he said.

PricewaterhouseCoopers Pvt. Ltd. (PwC India) has been assigned to prepare the State Energy Efficiency Action Plan for Jharkhand (SEEAP). The State Energy Efficiency Action Plan will assess the energy savings potential in various sectors of Jharkhand.

Based on identified focus sectors, SEEAP will suggest the medium-term plan till 2030 and long-term action plan till 2040 for various stakeholders to achieve assigned targets arrived at in consultation and guidance of the State.
