Ranchi, April 18: The Jharkhand government is set to inaugurate seven model colleges, four women’s colleges and five degree colleges for the new academic session for the year 2022-23.

The buildings of all these new colleges are completely ready. Chief Minister Hemant Soren has given instructions to start the admission process in the finished colleges so that more students are enrolled in the graduation courses after the results of intermediate examinations are declared.

Notably, a total of 61 new colleges are being opened in the state, including 35 degree colleges, 13 model colleges and 13 women’s colleges. Of these, seven model colleges, four women’s colleges and five degree colleges have already been completed.

Talking to a Lagatar24.com correspondent, Deputy Director Vibha Pandey of the Higher Education department said, “The Chief Minister has taken an initiative to set up a degree college in every constituency of the Legislative Assembly. In this regard, a few colleges are complete. CM Soren has instructed that all kinds of work be completed in these 16 colleges. However, I cannot say with confirmation whether the infrastructure is ready or is still having work done on. We hope that the work in these colleges will finish before the results for JAC Boards are declared, so that students have more options when thinking of colleges.”

When asked about the teachers for these colleges, she said, “We have planned to hire teachers on a contractual basis for the time being, however, I cannot say with certainty if the process of hiring is completed. Meanwhile, we are planning to set up the colleges by June so that we can start admissions for 2022 sessions.”

Talking about the finished colleges, she said, “Out of 13 under construction model colleges, construction of seven has been completed. These include Chatra, Giridih, Godda, Seraikela Kharsawan, Deoghar, Dumka and Latehar Colleges. Similarly, the construction of Simdega Women’s College, Lohardaga Women’s College, Koderma Women’s College and Pakur Women’s College has been completed among the 13 women’s colleges still under construction. Along with this, the construction of five of the 28 degree colleges approved in the state has been completed. These include Torpa of Khunti, Vishunpur of Gumla, Manika of Latehar, Jarmundi of Dumka and Degree College built in Chhatarpur of Palamu.”

Explaining the number of posts, Pandey said, “A total of 871 posts of teachers and staff have been created in 11 women’s colleges, 12 model colleges and seven degree colleges in the state. The process of creating posts in other colleges is still undergoing.”
