Islamabad, April 27: A special court in Pakistan’s Lahore prolonged pre-arrest for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son, Punjab chief minister-elect Hamza Shehbaz in a PKR 14 billion ($75 million) money laundering case.

According to PTI, a special court of Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has ordered Sharif to make a response, failing which the agency will begin indictment proceedings at the next hearing on May 14. Aside from that, the judge granted Sharif’s request for a one-day delay in appearing in court. His son, on the other hand, appeared in court.

According to the official, the court also ordered Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer, Amjad Pervez, to give arguments on May 14 on his client’s assertion that he could not be indicted in the case.

Notably, in November 2020, the FIA charged Sharif and his two sons, Hamza and Suleman, for violating parts of Pakistan’s Prevention of Corruption Act and Anti-Money Laundering Act.

Meanwhile, the Punjab governor, Omer Sarfaraz Cheema, was ordered by the Lahore high court on Wednesday to guarantee that Hamza be sworn in as chief minister of the province by April 28 – either personally or through a nominee. Earlier on April 16, Hamza was elected.
