Daltonganj, May 8: Keeping in mind, the upcoming panchayat polls, the Palamu police have kept the boat services between Jharkhand’s Palamu and Bihar’s Rohtas districts on the radar.

The North Koel river of Jharkhand has its confluence with the Sone river in Bihar and at three places in Jharkhand’s Palamu namely Deori, Dangwar and Kabra Kalan under the Hussainabad subdivision. As a result, boats ferry between Palamu and Rohtas districts.

Scores of people come by water from each state every day and it is to be seen if Jharkhand’s Palamu police will ask the Bihar Rohtas police to do something about this ferrying at least on May 14, ie, the day of polling.

SP Palamu Chandan Kumar Sinha said on Sunday that he will be meeting with SP Rohtas on Monday in this regard. Sinha further added that he would discuss trans-border activities in the backdrop of the first phase voting slated for May 14. “The boat service between Jharkhand’s Palamu and Bihar’s Rohtas would be discussed,” said Palamu SP, refusing to make any further comment.

Notably, Palamu is going to panchayat poll in the first phase on May 14 and incidentally, it is the Hussainabad subdivision that will vote on May 14 and this boat service between the two states is a prominent issue.

Meanwhile, a total of 2,93,881 voters will be exercising their franchise at 750 polling booths located in blocks like Mohammadganj, Haidernagar,  Hussainabad, Pipra, and Harihurganj and Untari Road on May 14.
