Ranchi, May 9: The Lalpur police have nabbed the culprits involved in carrying out the jewellery heist worth Rs 28 lakhs at Kangan Jewelers in Burdwan Compound last Thursday (May 5).

Acting on the instructions of SSP Surendra Jha, the police team arrested the criminals. As per sources, the investigation is undergoing and the police may soon hold a press conference in this regard.

Notably, jewellery worth Rs 28 lakh was looted along with cash and expensive sarees at Kangan Jewelers. After carrying out this incident, the three criminals fled on bikes. The robbery was captured on the CCTV camera installed in the area.

“While one of them kept an eye on the people inside the shop, two others went to the jewellery shop in the adjacent room and looted all the ornaments. While fleeing, they also took away the closed-circuit television cameras,” police had earlier said quoting the shop owner.

According to further information, three criminals had arrived as customers on Thursday. At that time the shop owner Prem Kedia, his wife Kala Devi Kedia, son Kamal Kedia and daughter-in-law Deepika Kedia were present at the shop. The three criminals asked the shopkeeper to show them sarees. While looking at the sari, suddenly two criminals got up and aimed a pistol at Prem Kedia and Kamal and warned them to stay quiet. In addition to three hundred grams of gold, and silver jewellery kept in the shop, Rs 50,000 cash was filled in a white sack after which the looters escaped on bikes.

As per sources, the criminals had visited the shop earlier under the guise of customers on both Monday and Tuesday before the heist.

City SP Anshuman Kumar said, “The police have secured leads in the case and are working on them. We hope to nab the criminals. They surveyed the shop for two days before committing the crime.”
