Ranchi, May 11: The State government today hinted at adding Hindi as an optional subject in the list of languages during the recruitment examination.

The hints came in the Jharkhand High Court at the time of hearing of a petition filed challenging the new rule of the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission.

The high court wanted the basis of removal of the most spoken language of the state, Hindi, and the advocate appearing on behalf of the state government Mukul Rohatgi orally said the state is ready to add the Hindi subject back.

After the hint came the court deferred the hearing in the matter till July 20. Before deferring the hearing the court asked the advocate to bring appropriate guidelines from the government.

The court also directed the advocate appearing on behalf of the government to come prepared to explain under which circumstances general category local students having matriculation and intermediate certificate from outside Jharkhand are debarred from appearing in the JSSC examination while those who do not belong to the general category are allowed.

The petition was filed by Rashmi Kumari, Ramesh Hansda, Abhishek Kumar Dubey and Vikas Choubey. The petitioner termed the amendments made in the JSSC Examination Rules unconstitutional to explain how the rules adversely affected their future prospects.

According to the applicant Rashmi, she passed the 10th examination in Jharkhand and intermediate studies in another state. But on the basis of Khatian of 1932, she got a certificate of a local resident from the circle. Despite this, she was deprived of appearing in the JSSC exam. By this she alleges the JSSC of violating her fundamental rights.  The applicant has also challenged the removal of Hindi paper from the examination.
