New Delhi, May 13: An appeal has been filed in the Supreme Court against a ruling of the Allahabad High Court allowing a court-appointed commissioner to inspect, survey, and videotape the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi, which is claimed by Hindus and Muslims.

Senior Counsel Huzefa Ahmadi stated Anjuman Intezamia Masajid’s appeal before Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana, requesting an urgent listing.

However, the Supreme Court on Friday rejected a group’s request for year-long access to a Hindu shrine behind the mosque’s western wall in the Gyanvapi Masjid case.

The apex court agreed to consider an urgent appeal challenging the mosque’s continuous videography. The order to perform a survey and videography of the mosque premises, according to the petition filed by lawyer Huzefa Ahmadi, is in violation of the Places of Worship Act, 1991.

“Please list this milord. The survey is taking place today,” said Ahmadi.

The CJI said that he will examine the petition and documents and list it.

“I have no idea about this case. Let me look at the papers. We will list it,” the CJI said.

Notably, Varanasi court on Thursday ordered the Gyanvapi mosque survey to be completed and the findings presented by May 17. The order was issued one day after the hearing on the petition to remove the court-appointed advocate commissioner in charge of the survey was completed.
