SNMMCH Dhanbad graduates to learn Yoga, Aryurveda during internship

Dhanbad, May 20: MBBS graduate students of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) will be the first batch in the state medical colleges to get training in Indian systems of medicine including Yoga, Ayurveda during their one year of internship in a current academic session.

Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) principal Dr Jyotiranjan Prasad while addressing the new intern batch of MBBS graduates informed them about the change in syllabus and the importance of disciplines included in the course. A total of 48 MBBS graduate students started an internship at SNMMCH.

“Interns were informed about the new syllabus and new disciplines included in it. They would have to take training of alternative Indian system of medicine on a mandatory basis and college has made started preparation for it,” said principal Dr Jyotiranjan Prasad.

Besides the principal, superintendent Dr AK Barnwal, medicine head of the department Prof (Dr) UK Ojha, Dr Dinesh Kumar Dhandhania (casualty in-charge), Dr Aftab (Surgery), Dr Shakti (FMT) also addressed the interns’ new batch and all of them focused on training of PSM (community welfare).

Dr Rajnikant Sinha, the head of the department eye, and Dr Vineet Tigga (FMT) have compiled an internship roaster for them in wake of changed curricula.

Director of medical education of the state health department Dr Arun Kumar said that National Medical Commission (NMC) has changed in course of MBBS internship training. Now, MBBS students have to complete a total of 17 disciplines during 12 months of internship after graduation.

Of the 17 disciplines, 14 are mandatory and three are selective for the students to get one-week training in super-speciality disciplines that have been added during the internship period.

The interns would have to select three selective disciplines of the Indian system of medicine from Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Homoeopathy, Siddha, Sowa and Rigpa.

Sowa and Rigpa is an ancient form of holistic healthcare of Tibetan/ Himalayan people.

Besides them, the interns would have also to undergo one-week training in two super speciality disciplines of cardiology, nephrology,  pulmonary medicine and medical oncology during 12 months course.
