Dhanbad, May 24: A delegation of the Post Graduate Teachers Association (PGTA) would meet the Chancellor (Governor) Ramesh Bais to brief him about the prevailing mismanagement in the Vinoba Bhave University (VBU) Hazaribagh. The mismanagement is due to the inconsistent working style of the vice-chancellor Dr Mukul  Narayan Dev, according to the teachers of the university.

Rattled by the series of alleged anti-teachers and anti-academic decisions of the vice-chancellor (VC), VBU PGTA  held a meeting and resolved to submit an 11-point resolution to the Governor for bailing out the university from the anarchy situation.

VBUPGTA president Dr Krishna Kumar Gupta and secretary Dr Vinod Ranjan said that since the situation is going beyond control, the association would also meet the chief minister and education minister to make them aware of the matter.

The teachers charged that the VC without consulting the department head, principals and teachers, arbitrarily announced holding classes during the summer vacation. They said that despite teachers completing the course on scheduled time, delay in holding examinations on time and in completion of the admission process, the session gets late in the university.

The teacher’s body said the delegation would also inform the Governor that in the name of making the session regular, the six months course is completed in a short time which has badly impacted the quality of study and research work. “Moreover teaching system has become mockery by introducing online classes in place of offline,” they said.

Association’s office-bearers resented that due to the indifferent attitude of university administration, teachers are enforced in election duty under adverse conditions. Such harassment of teachers could be avoided by holding dialogue with the district administration. But the university does not talk with the district administration on time.

The PGTA also charged that the established tradition of felicitating retired teachers on their last working day and providing them PF cheques has been broken in the regime of the present VC. Moreover, retired teachers are being harassed to get their post-retirement benefits.

“In the name of a High Court resolution, the university has held up gratuity payment of the teachers who have died while other universities in the state are paying. “State government issued a notification in March 2022 for paying teachers PhD benefit but even after three months University has not given so far,” said Dr Krishna Kumar Gupta, president PGTA.

Dr Gupta presided over the meeting while secretary Dr Vinod Ranjan conducted the function. Vice-president Dr Sukalyan Mitra, Dr Subodh Singh Shivgit and others were present at the meeting.
