Ranchi, May 26: The Patratu Thermal Power Plant will start functioning in the year 2024. This will be the first such power plant in the state with a capacity of 4000 MW.
Earlier, the target to start the plant was set in the year 2019. It was later postponed to 2022. However, as per the latest reports, the plant will now be functional in 2024.
According to sources, the work in the plant was affected due to the lockdown for almost two years. Due to this, the completion of the plant has been on hold. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday reviewed the power projects of the state and directed to remove all the obstacles of NTPC Chatra and PTPS in the state.
The total capacity of the power plant will be 4000 MW. The work of the plant will be completed in different phases. The work is being carried out on 2400 MW in the first phase.
The three units of 800 MW are under construction. According to the plan, work will be done on 1600 MW under the second phase. In the year 2015, JBVNL entered into an agreement with NTPC after which the construction work of the Patratu Thermal Power Plant was started by NTPC.
The work has been going on since 2015. Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (PVUNL) is a joint venture of the State Government and NTPC. The total plan is of Rs. 18,000 crores. With the commissioning of the unit, the state will get electricity from its own sources.
