Ludhiana: In a shocking incident, AAP MLA from Ludhiana West, Gurpreet Bassi Gogi, died of gunshot wounds under mysterious circumstances late Friday night. The tragedy occurred at his residence in Ghumar Mandi, Ludhiana, around midnight.
Ludhiana DCP Jaskaran Singh Teja confirmed that Gogi was brought dead to DMC Hospital. The body has been kept in the mortuary for postmortem, with senior officials, including Police Commissioner Kuldeep Chahal and Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal, present at the hospital.
Incident Details
According to sources, Gogi’s wife, Dr. Sukhchain Kaur, heard the sound of a gunshot and rushed to find him lying in a pool of blood. With the help of security personnel, the family transported him to DMC Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Political Journey and Legacy
Gogi, 58, served as an MC councillor twice before becoming the Ludhiana West MLA in 2022. Formerly the Congress district (Urban) president, he joined AAP ahead of the 2022 Vidhan Sabha elections, where he rose to prominence.
During the 2022 elections, Gogi famously filed his nomination papers on a scooter gifted by his mother, which he considered a lucky mascot. In his tenure, he actively worked on projects like the Buddha Nullah Pipeline and addressed environmental issues in Ludhiana.
Last Public Appearance
Hours before his death, Gogi attended a Lohri function organized by the Ludhiana Bar Association alongside Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan. His recent Facebook posts reflect his commitment to resolving environmental and social issues, including the cleaning of Budha Nala and taking action against criminal activities in the city.
Family and Community Reaction
Gogi is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter. The Ludhiana community and AAP leadership expressed deep shock and grief over the incident. AAP district secretary Paramveer Singh said Gogi was with his family in his final moments.
