New Delhi: One of India’s most wanted fugitives, Anmol Bishnoi – younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi – was deported from the United States and brought to Delhi on Wednesday. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) took him directly to Patiala House Court in connection with multiple high-profile criminal cases.
Facing 18 Criminal Cases, Including Murder Conspiracies
Anmol Bishnoi is accused in at least 18 serious cases across India. These include the conspiracy to murder former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, alleged involvement in Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moose Wala’s killing in May 2022, and firing outside actor Salman Khan’s residence.
His first image in NIA custody was shared by ANI, showing him being escorted by agency officials. Investigators consider his deportation a major breakthrough in ongoing terror-crime network probes.
Family Appeals For Safety, Claims He Is ‘Punished For Being Lawrence’s Brother’
Ahead of his arrival, Anmol’s cousin Ramesh Bishnoi urged the central government to ensure his safety. He claimed Anmol is being targeted because he is Lawrence Bishnoi’s younger brother.
“Our family respects the law… but our demand is that the government ensures his safety. He is being punished only for being Lawrence’s younger brother,” Ramesh told ANI, adding that the investigation will reveal the truth.
How He Escaped India And Reached The US
Anmol, originally from Fazilka in Punjab, fled India in 2021 using a forged passport. He is believed to have travelled first to Nepal, then to Dubai and Kenya, before finally reaching the United States.
He was last seen publicly in April 2023 at an event in Bakersfield, California. After his arrest earlier this year, US authorities began his deportation proceedings, which concluded on November 18.
Victim’s Family Kept Updated By US Authorities
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Zeeshan Siddique – son of the late Baba Siddique – said the family had registered as victims of crime in the US and received regular updates.
“On November 18, we were informed by the US federal government that the offender was removed from their land,” Zeeshan said.
He urged Mumbai Police to arrest and interrogate Anmol to uncover the motive behind his father’s murder and links to other attacks. “He is a threat to society,” he added.
