Mumbai: Bollywood actor Mukul Dev, known for his versatile roles in Son of Sardaar, R… Rajkumar, and Jai Ho, passed away on Friday night at the age of 54. The sudden demise of the actor has left the Indian film industry and his admirers in mourning.
Admitted to ICU, cause of death still unknown
While a formal statement from his family is awaited, sources close to the actor confirmed that Mukul had been unwell and was recently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The exact cause of death is not yet publicly known.
Actress and long-time friend Deepshikha Nagpal confirmed the news via Instagram, posting a throwback photo and the caption “RIP.” In a conversation with IANS, she said, “We were friends beyond the screen… I still can’t believe it—it feels like fake news.” Deepshikha described him as “a fantastic human being” and “an amazing actor.”
Industry pays tribute to a warm, talented artist
Tributes from the film fraternity have poured in across social media platforms. Actor Sonu Sood tweeted, “RIP Mukul bhai. You were a gem. Will always miss you. Stay strong @RahulDevRising bhai.” Mukul Dev was the brother of actor Rahul Dev.
Actor Vindu Dara Singh shared a video of their 2024 interaction, writing, “Rest in peace my brother #MukulDev! Son Of Sardaar 2 will be your swansong—spreading joy and laughter as always.”
Veteran actor Manoj Bajpayee wrote a moving message on Instagram: “It’s impossible to put into words what I’m feeling. Mukul was a brother in spirit, an artist whose warmth and passion were unmatched. Gone too soon, too young. Miss you meri jaan. Om Shanti.”
Legacy in cinema
Mukul Dev began his career in 1996 with the television series Mumkin and made his film debut the same year in Dastak, co-starring Sushmita Sen. Over the next two decades, he worked in a wide range of Hindi and regional films, including Punjabi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Bengali, and Malayalam cinema.
He was last seen in the Hindi film Anth The End. His nuanced performances across genres left a lasting impression on both audiences and colleagues. Fans across the country took to social media to share memories of his iconic roles and extend condolences to his family.
