Jamshedpur, July 8: Police finally cracked the mystery behind the murder of Kanhaiya Singh by arresting four persons, including his daughter and a minor within 10 days of the sensational murder of the 52-year-old man at Hari Om Nagar in Adityapur.
Those arrested include Kanhaiya Singh’s eldest daughter Arpana Singh, the other two being Arpana’s lover Rajbir Singh and shooter Nikhil Gupta.
Love had blossomed between Arpana (20) and Rajbir (21) five years ago when they were students of DAV Public School at the NIT campus in Adityapur, but came apparently to a tragic end following the murder of Kanhaiya Singh late in the night of June 29 allegedly conspired by the lovebirds.
The murder of Kanhaiya Singh and the subsequent arrest of his daughter along with three others assumes significance because the murder victim was the brother-in-law of former legislator Arvind Singh alias Malkhan Singh.
Speaking about the breakthrough in the murder case, Seraikela-Kharsawan SP, Anand Prakash said that the SIT headed by Seraikela SDPO, Harbinder Singh had first nabbed Nikhil Gupta from Varanasi following which the case was unravelled completely.
“Before succeeding in killing Kanhaiya Singh at Adityapur, Rajbir, Nikhil and one of their minor friend had tried to attack him somewhere in Patna. Moreover, Arpana used to pass on necessary information to the assailants regarding her father’s movement so that his murder could be executed at the earliest,” said Anand Prakash while addressing a press conference at Adityapur on Friday.
The SP revealed that both Arpana and Rajbir had developed bad blood against Kanhaiya Singh as the latter had come in the way of their love affair and succeeded to separate them for a prolonged period by taking the help of the influential former legislator.
According to the SP, the former legislator had intimidated Rajbir by sticking a pistol in his head and had eventually forced Rajbir and his parents to sell away their house in Adityapur’s Majhitola locality at a throwaway price to stay at a rented house in Mango.
“After parting their way for a long time, Arpana had rekindled the flame of love by sending a video clipping to Rajbir. In the video clipping, she was seen consuming pesticide as she was not able to live without her lover anymore. Then only anxious Rajbir approached Kanhaiya Singh for a “remedial measure,” thus making the girl’s father to get further furious. It was after this sequence of events that both Arpana and Rajbir had decided to remove Kanhaiya Singh from their way and had conspired his murder,” elaborated the senior police officer.
The SP said Nikhil Gupta, two others namely Raju Diggi and Rabi Sardar, who had been hired for the killing were waiting on the rooftop of the apartment. While Kanhaiya Singh was negotiating stairs for his flat on the third floor, the three armed men had come to the victim and shot him dead.
Police have recovered one of the pistols used in the murder and trying to arrest Rabi Sardar and Raju Diggi who are absconding.
All the four arrested persons were forwarded to Seraikela divisional jail after their production before a judicial magistrate in the evening.
