New Delhi, Nov.30: Admiral R Hari Kumar was sworn in as the new chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) on Tuesday and was greeted with a guard of honour on the South Block lawns in Delhi.
CNS Kumar, speaking at the event, stated, “It is a great honour for me to assume command as Chief of Naval Staff. The focus of the Indian navy will be on national security and marine concerns. I’ll devote all of my efforts to it. My predecessors have led the navy, and I intend to build on their triumphs.”
Admiral KB Singh, who retired today after a 30-month term, was succeeded by CNS Kumar.
Admiral KB Singh, who was retiring at the time, said on the occasion, “I’ve been in a covid and Galwan dilemma for the past 30 months. The navy did everything it could to deal with the situation. The Navy was always looking forth, ready to assist individuals and the country.”

Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar was commissioned into the Indian Navy’s Executive Branch on January 1, 1983, after being born on April 12, 1962.
He has held a range of command, staff, and instructional positions during the course of his nearly 39-year military career.
The INS Nishank, Missile Corvette, INS Kora, and Guided Missile Destroyer INS Ranvir are all part of Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar’s Sea Command. He also led the Indian Navy’s INS Viraat Aircraft Carrier.
He was the Western Fleet’s Fleet Operations Officer.
Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar attended the Naval War College in the United States, the Army War College in Mhow, and the Royal College of Defence Studies in the United Kingdom.
