Ranchi, Sept 14: The state and Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (JCECEB) are set to begin the process of admissions in medical colleges with the recent release of results of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2022. This year the state will admit students on a total of 755 seats in eight medical colleges of Jharkhand.
These include seats in three new medical colleges in Palamu, Dumka and Hazaribagh. A letter, in this regard, has been sent by the National Medical Commission granting permission to enroll in MBBS.
Notably, the Health Department has sent the recommendation of counseling along with the details of seats to the Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (JCECEB).
Officials in the health department said, “Enrollment has now been allowed on 100 seats in each of the new colleges. Of these, enrollment on 83 seats will be done through JCECEB under state quota. These colleges, even though ready could not admit students the last time because the lack of recognition from the National Medical Commission. This year, apart from 25 seats in Manipal Tata Medical College in Jamshedpur, 100 seats will also be available in Lakshmi Chandravanshi Medical College in Palamu.”
Meanwhile, students in medical colleges will be admitted on the basis of their NEET scores along with the state quota. Students also have the provision of reservation under their category. In the state level medical counseling session, seats are marked to the students on the basis of their UG NEET All India Rank and the State Merit List.
Category wise seats have been distributed in medical colleges under state quota. Under this, 40 percent of the state level seats have been ensured for the general quota students. Apart from this, 10 percent seats are ensured on EWS quota, 10 percent on SC quota, 26 percent on ST quota, eight percent on BC I and six percent on BC II.
It is noteworthy that the JCECEB has the responsibility of admissions in medical colleges of the state. Applications are invited from the students to attend the counseling session. On the basis of the application received, the state level merit list is prepared.
Students then attend the subsequent counseling session on the basis of the merit list. Counseling is then done in phases on the basis of vacant seats in the medical college. After three phases, seats are made available to the students through mop-up round counseling and strategic round counseling in case any seats remain. If seats still remain, the students are provided seats through special round counseling.
