Ranchi/Jamtara: Age-related discrepancies have stirred a fresh controversy in the Jharkhand Assembly elections, focusing this time on BJP candidate Sita Soren, who is also the sister-in-law of Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Representing the Jamtara constituency, Sita Soren is now facing questions about her stated age, following an official objection filed by Dr. Irfan Ansari’s election agent, Azharuddin, who is the Congress candidate from the same constituency.
In his complaint to the returning officer, Azharuddin highlighted a significant six-year difference in the ages listed in Sita Soren’s election affidavits from 2019 (when she contested from Jama) and 2024. The discrepancy, he argued, casts doubt on the reliability of the information provided by Soren in her official documents, suggesting potential inconsistencies.
Azharuddin has requested a thorough investigation to clarify the situation, urging the returning officer to scrutinize the details for accuracy. He further appealed that Sita Soren’s nomination be revoked if any irregularities are confirmed. To uphold transparency and fairness, Azharuddin emphasized the need for immediate action. The Deputy Commissioner of Jamtara and designated election observers have been notified of the issue as well.
