New Delhi, Oct 27: For the forthcoming Chhath Puja, the Center has begun operating more than 250 special trains, according to Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

“For Chhath Puja, we have started over 250 trains. Around 1.4 lakhs berths have been made available and we will do whatever is necessary for the people,” he said.

Notably, Indian Railways is operating 2,561 trips of 211 special trains (in pairs) until Chhath Puja this year to handle the increased passenger demand during the current holiday season.

The Indian Railways will operate an additional 32 special services, according to a statement made public earlier this month by the Ministry of Railways, to ensure that passengers have a smooth and enjoyable journey during this festive season.

Major rail routes around the nation, including those to Darbhanga, Azamgarh, Saharsa, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, Firozpur, Patna, Katihar, and Amritsar, among others, have been planned for special trains.

Earlier on Tuesday, Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, made a request to the Centre to arrange special trains for Chhath Puja for people who wanted to travel to their hometowns for the festival.

Bihar requested special trains for Chhath Puja from the railway ministry. Notably, one of the most blessed festivals in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Eastern Uttar Pradesh is Chhath Puja.
