New Delhi, July 11: O Panneerselvam (OPS), former chief minister of Tamil Nadu who was expelled from the AIADMK at the party’s General Council meeting, claimed that 1.5 crore cadres chose him as a coordinator and that neither Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) nor another leader had the authority to remove him.
OPS deemed his expulsion as illegal and declared that he will file a legal complaint after the General Council’s decision.
“General Council expelling me isn’t valid…we will take legal action according to the law. they don’t have the right to remove me,” OPS told reporters.
“I have been elected (as party coordinator) by 1.5 crore cadres of our party. As per law, we will challenge it in court. I will meet the cadres and seek justice,” he added.
After Edappadi Panaliswamy assumed control of the party as its interim general secretary, the former deputy chief minister of Tamil Nadu O Panneerselvam was removed from all party positions on Monday. JCD Prabhakar, R Vaithilingam, and PH Manoj Pandian, senior leaders and OPS backers, were also expelled from the AIADMK.
Notably, party leader Edappady K Palaniswami, commonly known as EPS, was promoted to the acting general secretary of the AIADMK, the main opposition party in Tamil Nadu, today, ending the dual leadership paradigm.
