Patna: The IndiGo crisis continues to intensify across the country, and Bihar remains one of the worst-hit regions. In the last seven days, 172 flights were cancelled from the state’s airports, including Patna, Gaya, Darbhanga, and Purnea. Even on Tuesday, 24 IndiGo flights scheduled from Patna were cancelled, causing severe difficulties for passengers.
Patna Airport Hit Hardest By Mass Cancellations
Out of the 172 total cancellations in Bihar, 146 flights were cancelled from Patna airport alone. On Monday, 18 IndiGo flights were grounded, and on Tuesday the number rose to 24. IndiGo counters at Patna airport have stopped issuing new tickets; only previously booked tickets are being cancelled or rescheduled. SpiceJet and Air India Express have also seen disruptions — two SpiceJet flights were cancelled on Monday, and Air India counters have had no tickets available for three days. Many passengers are paying five to six times the usual fare to reach their destination as last-minute cancellations leave them with no choice.
Passengers Struggle Across Other Airports, Purnea Sees Brief Relief
At Gaya and Darbhanga airports, multiple cancellations have continued throughout the week, adding to travellers’ distress. Purnea airport saw temporary relief on Monday after all 10 scheduled flights operated smoothly for the first time in five days. However, the respite was short-lived; the Delhi flight 6E-6559/6560 was cancelled again on Tuesday after repeated operational disruptions over the past week.
Uncertainty Continues, No Immediate Return To Normalcy Expected
Aviation officials expect IndiGo’s services in Bihar to remain unstable for the next few days due to continuing operational issues. Passengers are advised to check flight status before heading to the airport to avoid last-minute inconvenience. Despite refunds being processed, travellers are suffering major disruptions to work, medical appointments, and family commitments.
