England men’s all-rounder Moeen Ali has announced his retirement from Test cricket to focus on limited-overs cricket. Moeen made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in 2014 and has scored 2914 runs at an average of 29. He has also scored 5 centuries and 14 half-centuries in his innings. He has also taken 195 wickets at an average of 36.66. In 112 ODIs, Moeen Ali has scored 1877 runs at an average of 25.02. He has also taken 84 wickets at an average of 50.85. In 38 T20Is, Moeen has scored 437 runs and has taken 21 wickets.
“I’m 34 now and I want to play for as long as I can and I just want to enjoy my cricket,” Ali said.
“Test cricket is amazing, when you’re having a good day it’s better than any other format by far, it’s more rewarding and you feel like you’ve really earnt it. I will miss just walking out there with the lads, playing against the best in the world with that feeling of nerves but also from a bowling point of view, knowing with my best ball I could get anyone out. I’ve enjoyed Test Cricket but that intensity can be too much sometimes and I feel like I’ve done enough of it and I’m happy and content with how I’ve done”, he added.
Notably, Moeen Ali returned to the England team after two years for the five-match Test series against India. He last played in the 2019 Ashes series before returning to the home series against India.
