American fourth seed Amanda Anisimova pulled off a remarkable comeback, defeating Poland’s second seed Iga Swiatek 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-2 to secure a place in the WTA Finals semifinals. The thrilling three-set clash showcased Anisimova’s resilience and composure under pressure as she overcame one of the world’s top players.

An Epic Battle of Skill and Determination

The first set saw both players holding serve strongly, with Swiatek eventually edging out Anisimova in a tense tiebreak 7-6(3). Despite creating four break-point chances, Anisimova couldn’t capitalize early on as Swiatek’s consistency held firm.

In the second set, momentum shifted. Anisimova saved three break points in the third game and later broke Swiatek’s serve at 5-4 to level the match 6-4. Entering the decider with renewed energy, the American dominated from the baseline, breaking Swiatek twice to clinch the set 6-2 and the match.

Semifinal Line-Up Takes Shape

With this victory, Anisimova joins Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina, who had already qualified from the Serena Williams Group, in the semifinals. Both Anisimova and Swiatek had one win and one loss each before this decisive encounter, making it a must-win match for the remaining semifinal spot.

This was their third meeting of the season. Swiatek had earlier defeated Anisimova in the Wimbledon final, while Anisimova avenged that loss at the US Open quarterfinals, setting the stage for this intense rubber at the WTA Finals.
