New Delhi, July 11: The Amarnath Yatra was restarted on Monday morning after being suspended for two days due to the cloudburst disaster, which resulted in the deaths of 16 people. Thousands of pilgrims continued to make their way to the sacred site.

Officials stated that only 2,000 to 3,000 pilgrims were permitted to go from the base camp to Chandanwari.

“A fresh batch of yatris (pilgrims) have been allowed to proceed towards holy cave from the Nunwan Base Camp of Pahalgam. The yatra was stopped for the last two days after cloudburst incident near the Amarnath holy cave,” an official said.

The Baltal road and the Pahalgam route are used for the yearly pilgrimage, which resumed on June 30 after a two-year hiatus. On Monday morning, the Amarnath Yatra resumed from the Yatri Niwas base camp in Jammu. Another officer said that 1,016 pilgrims departed for Baltal base camp at 3.30 am and 3,010 pilgrims left for Pahalgam base camp at 4.30 am.

An enormous catastrophe occurred on Friday night when a cloudburst near the famous shrine caused flash floods, mayhem, and uncertainty.

Armed forces, emergency response teams, and the Jammu and Kashmir Police immediately began extensive rescue efforts that lasted all night. There were thousands of individuals saved.
