Amritsar: A powerful explosion rocked the Thakur Dwara Temple in Amritsar’s Khandwala area late Friday night, causing damage to the structure and shattering window panes. CCTV footage revealed two unidentified individualsarriving on a motorcycle, stopping briefly, and throwing an explosive at the temple before escaping.
Police Suspect Pakistan’s ISI Involvement
Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed that the police received an alert at 2 am from the temple priest. Forensic teams were deployed to collect evidence.
“Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) lures our youth into creating disturbances in Punjab. We will trace this case soon and take strict action. I warn the youth not to ruin their lives. The culprits will be caught shortly,” said Commissioner Bhullar.
Political Outrage Over Law and Order in Punjab
The attack has triggered strong political reactions, with opposition leaders criticizing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-ruled Punjab government over the deteriorating security situation.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Demands Judicial Probe
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) condemned the attack, calling it a “serious and sensitive incident” that has hurt religious sentiments.
“This is the 13th such blast in the area, proving the complete collapse of law and order. A high-level judicial inquirymust be conducted to expose the conspiracy behind this attack,” the SAD statement read.
The party further alleged that Punjab was being deliberately destabilized, warning that such experiments had proved dangerous in the past and could once again push Punjab into turmoil.
BJP Leader Criticizes AAP Government
BJP leader Ranveet Singh Bittu slammed the Punjab government, stating:
“I strongly condemn the bomb attack on Thakur Dwara Temple. The AAP government has failed to prevent repeated blasts in Amritsar, a border city. The deteriorating law and order in Punjab is a serious concern.”
Punjab CM Defends Law and Order Situation
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann acknowledged repeated attempts to disturb peace in the state but maintained that Punjab’s law and order was intact compared to other states.
“There are constant efforts to disrupt Punjab’s peace through drugs, gangsters, and extortion. However, Punjab is still better than other states, where police had to resort to lathi-charge during Holi processions,” Mann asserted.
Investigation Underway
Authorities are investigating the case, and efforts are being made to identify and apprehend the attackers.
