Amaravati, Dec 12: Andhra Pradesh on Sunday reported its first case of Omicron variant of Covid-19, pushing the nationwide tally of infection from the Omicron to 35.
“A 34-year-old traveler came from Ireland to Mumbai Airport initially tested negative for coronavirus when an RT-PCR test was conducted on him. Based on the report, he was allowed to travel to Visakhapatnam on November 27, When conducting a re-test at Vizianagaram, the test was found positive,” informed Andhra Pradesh Health Department on Sunday.
“The sample of the infected person was sent to CCMB, Hyderabad for genome sequencing and the result was declared as Omicron Positive,” the department added.

The state health department informed that, so far a total of 15 international travelers tested positive for Covid-19 and all the 15 samples were sent to CCMB for genome sequencing. only one among them were found to contain the traces of Omicron variant.
The public health department of Andhra Pradesh advised the to not worry and believe in any rumours but continue to take precautions and follow social distancing, wearing of mask, washing hands regularly.
Earlier in the day, a 20-year-old man from Italy, who arrived in India last month, was found positive for Omicron in Chandigarh.
