New Delhi, Sept 25: The family of 19-year-old Ankita Bhandari in Uttarakhand has refused to carry out the final rites because they want to see the results of the post-mortem first. The girl’s father has also questioned the Uttarakhand government on the resort’s demolition.
The resort’s manager and assistant manager were detained on Friday and placed in 14-day judicial detention along with the resort’s owner, Pulkit Arya, who also happens to be BJP leader Vinod Arya’s son.
Ankita drowned, according to the autopsy report, and there were injuries on her body that were consistent with blunt force trauma just before she passed away.
Pushkar Singh Dhami, the chief minister of Uttarakhand, launched a SIT investigation into the incident after Ankita Bhandari’s suspected murder provoked demonstrations and promised “harshest punishment” for those responsible.
The SIT would also look into Ankita’s WhatsApp conversations in which she complained to a close friend that Pulkit Arya and her bosses at work were putting increasing pressure on her to offer “special services” to customers.
“We have called every employee in the resort to the police station; will take everyone’s statements. We’re running a full background analysis on the resort. Ankita’s WhatsApp chats that have surfaced are also being probed, “DIG PR Devi, SIT in-charge told ANI.

The deceased’s relatives announced that they would postpone the definitive post-mortem report’s release until after the funeral. Additionally, they have urged that the accused be hanged and that the case be heard by a fast-track court. On Saturday early in the morning, police in Rishikesh found her dead in the Chilla canal.
“We won’t conduct her last rites until her post-mortem report is given. We saw in her provisional report that she was beaten up and was thrown in a river. But we’re awaiting the final report,” said Ajay Singh Bhandari, brother of Ankita Bhandari.
