New Delhi, June 20: The notification for the recruitment of ‘Agniveers’ under the Agnipath recruitment schemes has been issued by the Indian Army on Monday. The registration for the event will begin in July.

“The registrations will be opened from July onwards by the respective Army Recruitment Offices (ARO) for Agniveer General Duty, Agniveer Technical, Agniveer Technical (aviation/ammunition examiner), Agniveer clerk/store keeper technical, Agniveer tradesman (10th pass) and Agniveer Tradesman (8th pass as per the ARO rally schedule),” reads the army notification.

The Indian Army’s notification describes the terms and conditions of service, eligibility, discharge, and other crucial details about the Agniveer scheme.

The candidates will be enrolled under the Army Act 1950 for a four-year service period, including the training phase, according to the notification. The Agniveers will be forced to travel wherever they are commanded, whether by land, sea, or air. There would be no pension or gratuity available to the Agniveers.

This comes amid anti-Agnipath rallies that have erupted in various states since Wednesday. The Agnipath scheme calls for the recruitment of troops aged 17.5 to 21 across the three services for a four-year period.

The ‘Agniveers’ will begin serving from the date of enrolment. They would constitute a new Army rank that would be unique from the present ranks.

Any duty in the organization’s interest may be entrusted to the ‘Agniveers.’ Personnel enrolling in this programme will be subjected to periodic medical examinations as well as physical, written, and field tests as directed. The demonstrated performance would be taken into account for a subsequent offer of enlistment in the Regular Cadre. Agniveers can be assigned to any regiment or unit, and they can be reassigned for organisational reasons.

In addition, the Home Ministry has decided to grant Agniveers a three-year age relaxation above the specified upper age restriction for enlistment into the Central Armed Police Forces and the Assam Rifles.

Earlier, as a one-time gesture to appease the protesters, the Centre raised the upper age limit for recruitment to 23 years for the year 2022.

On Sunday, the three military forces released a comprehensive timetable of enrolling under the ‘Agnipath’ initiative, warning that anyone who engage in violence or arson will not be enrolled.
