Thiruvananthapuram, May 2: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will attend a rally in Kochi on May 15 organised by the Twenty20 independent political party. According to the sources, the Delhi Chief Minister is attending the party gathering as a guest. When asked about a potential political agreement with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), he stated they haven’t discussed it yet.
“We invited him and he accepted our invitation. We are planning a big rally in Kizhakambalam on May 15 in which we expect at least 50,000 people. He will be our chief guest,” said chairman Sabu Jacob.
There are rumours that AAP is on an expansion spree following its landslide victory in Punjab two months ago, with party sources claiming Gujarat and Kerala are at the top of the list. They said that the party can carve out a niche in the state because many people are unsatisfied with the state’s stagnant bipolar political system, and that the BJP is a distant third. Though the AAP has a chapter in Kerala, it is not very active and needs a boost, according to them. Twentry20 will be an appropriate partner for this.
Notably, Twenty20 is a political party founded by the Kitex Group, a corporate house (apparel behemoth) that surged to power in the little village of Kizakambalam for the first time in the 2015 local body elections and repeated the feat in 2020. Its win was difficult to comprehend for a politically savvy state, and many branded it a major irritation in the state’s active political milieu.
Though the villagers are pleased, politicians are not, and there have been numerous attempts to bring it down, but it has stayed firm. Its candidates received a decent percentage of votes in two seats in Ernakulam district during the previous assembly elections.
