New Delhi, June 21: In Assam, the floods took ten additional lives in the last 24 hours, including two police officers, due to the constant rain. According to the State Disaster Management Authority, floods continue to wreak havoc on the state’s 34 districts.
While attempting to rescue marooned persons trapped in floodwaters, a police officer and a constable were swept away by the surging currents of the Kopili River. On Tuesday, the death toll from Assam’s continuing floods and landslides surpassed 80.
Flood-hit Heavy rains have been falling in Assam for the past few days, affecting approximately 47 lakh people.
Notably, seven persons went missing on Monday, while over 2.3 lakh people sought refuge in rescue camps. In total, 810 relief camps and 615 relief distribution centres have been established in the impacted districts.
