New Delhi, Sept 12: Assam Police on Monday detained two more suspects in the Morigaon district who may have connections to the outlawed terrorist group Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT). Musadik Hussain and Ikramul Islam were named as alleged terrorists.

Ikramul, an imam, was detained in the Nagaon area. On the other side, Hussain was taken into custody by the state police from the Moirabari area in the Morigaon district. According to Aparna N, the Morigaon district’s superintendent of police, both of the people detained have connections to the outlawed group.

A madrassa in Moirabari was destroyed by the Morigaon district administrators last month after police discovered a terror cell on the property of the religious learning facility.

Following the arrests of some 40 people, including the Imam and madrasa professors, on suspicion of having ties to the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) and Al Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent, the state administrations have so far destroyed three madrassas across the state (AQIS).

In addition, after a preacher connected to it was detained for supposed anti-national activities, residents themselves destroyed another such educational institution. According to accounts, some militants posing as religious leaders infiltrated the state and carried out their anti-state actions covertly.

According to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, some madrassa managements weren’t in charge of the school but rather were in charge of a terrorist hub.
