Resuming the Day 3 game at 31/4, England kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and the side was unable to match Australia’s lead and in the end, they suffered an innings defeat. Pacer Scott Boland in his debut took six wickets in the second innings to hand Australia a memorable victory.

“It is pretty insane. Just an awesome few weeks, everything clicked and everything worked out,” said Australian skipper Pat Cummins.

Ben Stokes (11) was the first to go on Day 3 after being clean bowled by Mitchell Starc. After that, Scott Boland got in on the act, and he annihilated England’s lower order.’ Boland went on to take six wickets in the second innings on his debut, giving Australia a memorable victory. In the second innings, England was bowled out for 68 runs.

England captain Joe Root expressed disappointment.

“It is what it is. We have come to dealing with this sort of an environment for a while now,” said Root.

“Credit to Australia, they blew us away. We have a lot of hard work to do now and come back hard in the next two matches,” he added.

Brief Scores: England 185 and 68 all out (Joe Root 28, Ben Stokes 11; Scott Boland 6-7); Australia 267.
