Dhanbad, July 26: The Post graduate (PG) teachers of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) Dhanbad are on boil over a circular of new timing issued by the university.
The BBMKU on Tuesday evening issued a notice fixing the new timing of 10.30 am to 4.30 PM (six hours) for PG teachers to stay on the campus. Besides it, the university on the directive of the Chancellor (Governor) has also made biometric attendance mandatory for them.
Earlier on July 9 last, BBMKU authorities had fixed the timing of post graduate department teachers 10 am to 4 pm. But on Tuesday, the timing was again revised and directed to make biometric attendance also.
The Post Graduate Teachers Association (PGTA) has opposed the notice of new timing and said that it should have been made keeping the problem of teachers who come from far away in mind.
“ We welcome the decision of biometric attendance and staying for six hours on the campus but university authorities should also consider the problem of PG teachers who come around 45 km away from Bokaro district and around 45 km away from Maithon to attend classes. We had suggested to fix 3.30 PM keeping the problem of Bokaro and Maithon teachers in mind, “ said Prof DK Singh, the general secretary of BBMKU PG Teachers Association.
After the BBMKU became a separate university in 2017, post graduate courses were started at BS City College Bokaro, PK Roy Memorial College Dhanbad, SSLNT Women’s College and RSP College Jharia.
In March 2023, the university centralized its all PG departments at Bhelatand Dhanbad based new academic building.
“It looks strange that the university follows only the guidelines of UGC which benefits it but at the same time does not adopt other guidelines that the UGC has said in favour of teachers,” said Dr DK Singh. PGTA general secretary. He further added that the UGC has also asked to give timely promotion and other facilities to teachers but the authorities have completely ignored that. Lecturers of the 2008 batch have not been given any promotion in the last 15 years,” Prof DK Singh added.
“If you take the duty of the UGC timing then you should also provide promotion and other facilities to teachers as per the UGC directive,” the PGTA leader said. A senior teacher of the PG department said that the matter would be discussed at the BMMKU Teachers Association meeting scheduled in the late afternoon today.
