New Delhi, July 12: The Indian women’s cricket team for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games, which will take place in Birmingham on Monday, has been revealed by the BCCI.
The 15-member team that will play T20 cricket for the first time in the quadrennial event will be led by Harmanpreet Kaur. Sneh Rana, Harleen Deol, and wicketkeeper Taniya Bhatiya will all be back for the team.
The all-rounder Sneh Rana stands out as the most significant player to rejoin the team after missing the Sri Lanka series due to an injury that required rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Yastika Bhatia will be the team’s top pick for a stumper. Taniya’s selection was unexpected given that the selection committee, which was directed by Neetu David, had re-signed the keeper-batter, who had scored 166 runs in 22 innings at an average of 9.72 and a strike rate of 94.

Bengal’s Richa Ghosh was the victim. She has scored 191 runs in 14 games with a strike rate of 112 or above, but she is now on the reserves list since she has recently lost attention. Poonam Yadav and Simran Bahadur were also listed as stand-by athletes for the competition.
Group A includes Pakistan, Australia, Barbados, and India. On July 29, it will face Australia in the first game of the competition. South Africa, Sri Lanka, the host nation England, and New Zealand make up Group B.
The top two teams from each pool advance to the semi-final round.
Women’s cricket will be featured for the first time at CWG, with all games taking place at Birmingham’s Edgbaston Cricket Ground. However, cricket has been played before, most notably in the men’s 50-over competition, which South Africa won at the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Games.
