Bengaluru: A man from Bengaluru was dismissed from his job after he threatened a woman with an acid attack on social media, objecting to her choice of clothing. The incident unfolded when the woman’s husband, Shahbaz Ansar, a journalist, filed a complaint and shared a screenshot of the threatening message his wife received on Instagram. The man behind the threat, Nikith Shetty, worked for Etios Digital Services.
Ansar took to Twitter to raise the issue, tagging the Karnataka DGP, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. His tweet read: “This person is threatening to throw acid on my wife’s face for her choice of clothes. Please take immediate action against this person to prevent any incident from happening.”
Following the complaint, Etios Digital Services swiftly responded by firing Nikith Shetty. Ansar later tweeted, “The man who threatened my wife with an acid attack lost his job. The company acted promptly and fired him.”
Company’s Statement and Action
Etios Services issued a statement condemning Shetty’s actions, stating that his behaviour was “unacceptable” and “goes against the core values” of the company. In addition to firing Shetty, the company filed a case against him to hold him accountable for his actions.
“As a company committed to fostering a safe and respectful environment, we have taken immediate action. Nikith’s employment has been terminated for a period of five years, and we have filed a case against him to ensure accountability for his actions,” the company’s statement said.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to promoting respect and dignity for all individuals and emphasized its stance against any form of harassment or violence. “Our commitment to creating a safe workplace is unwavering, and we will continue to take all necessary measures to uphold this standard,” the statement added.
