Patna, Jan 13: The Bihar government declared one-day state mourning on Friday as a mark of esteem to the socialist leader and former union minister Sharad Yadav.
The announcement proclaiming the state in mourning was released by the chief minister’s office.
“I had a very deep relationship with Sharad Yadav Ji. I am shocked and saddened by the news of his demise. It has caused an irreparable loss in social and political fields,” Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said.
“He (Sharad Yadav) was a strong socialist leader, a seven-term Lok Sabha MP and a three-term Rajya Sabha MP. May his soul rest in peace,” he added.

Sharad Yadav (75), who was brought to the medical facility disoriented and unresponsive, passed away on Thursday night at a private hospital in Gurugram.

While recovering in Singapore from kidney transplant surgery, Governor Phagu Chauhan and RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav expressed their condolences on the passing of the socialist leader.
In their electoral struggles for the Madhepura Lok Sabha seat, Lalu Prasad and Sharad Yadav said that their disagreements ‘never culminated in any form of hatred.’
