Patna: The Election Commission of India is expected to announce the Bihar Assembly election dates anytime after October 6, sources have indicated. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is scheduled to visit Bihar following the completion of transfer and posting processes in the state.

EC Orders Transfer-Posting Process Before Visit

Ahead of the CEC’s visit, the Commission has directed the state administration to complete all transfer and posting formalities by October 6. In a letter to the Bihar Chief Secretary, the EC has asked for detailed reports on transfers and postings. Similar instructions have also been sent to the Director General of Police, Development Commissioner, and departmental principal secretaries.

CEO Issues Strict Compliance Notice

Bihar’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vinod Singh Gunjiya has also written to the Chief Secretary, DGP, and other department heads, directing them to ensure compliance and submit their reports by the October 6 deadline.

Model Code of Conduct To Come Into Effect

Once election dates are announced, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) will immediately come into force across the state. This will halt further transfers, postings, and the launch of new government schemes or announcements until the elections conclude.

High-Stakes Contest Expected

Bihar has 243 assembly seats, with the main contest expected between the NDA and the INDIA alliance. Political observers predict an intense and closely watched battle this time, with both alliances determined to secure power in the state.
